Kata kerja berakhiran -ing bisa jadi: gerund atau past participle (verb -ing).

Bedanya: fungsi gerund sebagai kata benda, bukan kata kerja atau sifat.

Jadi, gerund adalah: bentuk verb -ing yang berfungsi sebagai kata benda.

contoh:

* Sebagai GERUND: SINGING is my hobby.

* Sebagai KATA KERJA: I am SINGING.

* Sebagai KATA SIFAT: I like SINGING puppets.

Dalam kalimat “Singing is my hobby.” kata “singing” adalah sebuah gerund yang berfungsi sebagai subyek dari kalimat tersebut.
